One of the most significant courses in the United States, The 1st US Open and Amateur was played here in 1895 and Newport is one of the 5 founding member clubs of the USGA. One of only handful of courses that has host the US Amateur, Open, Sr Open and Women’s Open. This is most likely the only course in the US that has hosted a major not to have a watering system for the fairways, its left up to mother nature how green the fairways gets. Designed by AW Tillinghast, Newport has had a few architects design the course through out its years.
